My name is Dane, I was born in Baltimore, MD in the early 80's and from a very early age I became obsessed with drawing animals. I also grew up on horror films and video games, which would later influence my art. I began posting my work online in the mid-90's and soon discovered the online furry art community. This became a safe haven for me, as I was mercilessly bullied and outcast at school. In the early 2000's, I had joined Side 7 and eventually DeviantArt, where I developed a reputation for drawing edgy, gory art. Since then, I have spent my entire life improving my art and developing my characters and their world.
To say that I have had it rough would be an understatement. Pain, suffering and turmoil have been a constant theme throughout my life. A good portion of this has been the result of Polycystic Kidney Disease--a genetic illness that has devestated my family, taken loved ones from me, and is now decemating my own body. I use my art as a means to cope with these things and have created a world in which the sick and abnormal are the protagonists. Many of my characters represent parts of my own personality or things that are important to me.
Having grown up in a Catholic family, I have struggled with my identity as someone who is not exactly straight or gender conforming. Although I am now a Satanist who rejected Christianity entirely in my teens, it took a long time for me to also reject the bigorty and self-hatred that came with my upbringing. Creating characters who are LGBT helped me to process this.
Aside from drawing, I also enjoy playing bass and have a serious obsession with dogs and cars (especially old cars). I drive a 1st gen Scion xB which I have almost completely restored and done much of my own work on. I also enjoy music (mostly alt-rock and metal). My favorite band is Muse.
